I have lime green grass? Is this crab grass in my lawn? Is crabgrass perennial or annual?
Crabgrass is an annual grass that germinates in the summer when the temperature of the soil reaches 55 Degrees Fahrenheit consistently and is generally finished by the first good frost. Crabgrass is light green in color, coarse bladed, and will root at the nodes when they touch the ground. Crabgrass leaves are rolled in the bud. They first appear wide, short, and blunt-tipped. A single crabgrass plant can produce up to 700 tillers. It is a grass that appears in a bunch. It can also produce 150,000 seeds. It needs warm soil and sunlight to germinate. Crabgrass can be found in all 50 States.
Do not verticut, seed, or core aerate when the soil and weather conditions are prime for the germination of crabgrass. By doing a slightly raised mowing height may help prevent the establishment by providing shade from sunlight. When crabgrass is going to seed, lower the mower height and collect the clippings to prevent seeds from establishing in the lawn. Crabgrass can be one of the least desired things to grow in your lawn. Pre-emergent from Weed Man can drastically reduce the amount of crab grass in the turf. In addition Weed Man has access to a post emergent that can touch up the lawn if crabgrass establishes itself. Call Weed Man Lawn Care in the Minneapolis, and St. Paul metro areas at 651-456-9696
What Do Voles Look Like? What is a Vole? Trails Through Lawn? Winter Animal Damage?
Voles, often confused with mice, they are small rodents that feast on turf root systems during winter months under the snow. Vole damage is often identified in spring as the snow melts. Tunnels or trails are tell tail signs of Vole activity. Voles overwinter in mulch, bushes, wood piles, and other areas.
If the damaged areas do not recover, seeding may be required to help recovery. Voles also girdle stems from small trees like, fruit, crab apple, or small saplings. Reducing overwinter areas, use of live traps, Plantskydd® repellent, or contacting your local pest control can help deter Voles.
Fertilize to help minimize winter kill on your lawn! Winter can be a damaging time for your lawn. Winter and Lawn
Winters can be unpredictable and may put your lawn through any of the winter-kill conditions. The best thing to do is to make sure the grass has been fertilized properly, monitoring the weather, and deal with these conditions as they occur.
